Avenue real estate agents say that four U.S. cities are great places to buy a home if you want to live near easily accessible outdoor recreation. They say that the current housing markets in these cities are very active, so you might find a good deal on a house.
Asheville, North Carolina
Asheville is a city with a lot of arts and music, as well as delicious food and many local breweries. It’s a great place to live if you’re looking for a slower pace of life, and many people move to Asheville to escape harsher climates and bigger cities.
The Asheville area is a great place to enjoy the outdoors all year round. In the summer, you can enjoy the cool weather and beautiful scenery of the Appalachian, Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountain Ranges. In the fall, the trees change colors and the weather becomes milder. In the winter, there are plenty of hiking and skiing opportunities. And in the spring and fall, there are beautiful flowers to see.
The housing market in Asheville is doing well, but there are not enough homes for sale to meet the demand.
Prices are up 20% from last year, and demand for homes remains high. However, because there is still low inventory, it can be difficult for buyers to find a home. There are some things buyers can do to make their search easier, and agents who know how to find homes in a competitive market can help.
Burlington, Vermont
Burlington is a city with lots of small businesses and a friendly town-like atmosphere.
Lauren Gaffney Cohen says that Burlington has changed a lot in the past few decades. It has a great downtown area with plenty of shopping, as well as nearby outdoor activities like biking and sailing. In the summertime, you can bike from Burlington to Colchester and take a bike ferry to the islands on the causeway. Lauren’s family loves renting sailboats at the sailing center.
Burlington is a great place to live because it has close proximity to some great ski resorts and also has a lot of great state parks nearby.
When looking to buy a house, Cohen recommends looking outside of the city limits.
The housing market is really tough right now. There aren’t many houses available, so people who want to live near each other have to be choosy. But, you don’t have to live in Burlington to enjoy all the benefits of living there. You can live in one of the surrounding towns and still have access to all the things that make Burlington great.
Bend, Oregon
Bend has a lot of great outdoor activities you can enjoy, like skiing, rock climbing, mountain biking, or trails. All of these activities are between 30 minutes and one hour away. You can enjoy nature too, if you go to the right places.
Bend is a city in Oregon that is known for its kayakers and its Bend Whitewater Park. In the winter, it is a 30-minute drive to Mt. Bachelor, a ski resort that is popular in the summer. There are many golf courses in Bend, and it is less than a four-hour drive to the coastline.
Some people, like Shinn, think Bend is a great place to live and visit, but others think it’s just as great.
Bend is seeing a lot of new residents because a lot of people are working remotely. The Redmond Airport is close by, which is helping to make it a popular destination. However, there is not very much housing available, which is common nationwide.
Flagstaff, Arizona
Flagstaff is a great place to live if you love mountains and deserts.
Ksenia Hartl says that the city is located in a really special location with high elevation and low pollution. It has access to some great hiking and biking trails and a ski resort nearby. Plus, it has a lot of sunshine all year round.
The Arizona Snowbowl Ski Resort is close to downtown Flagstaff, and this is why it’s a great place to ski. Many people don’t know this, but Flagstaff also has a ski resort. This is one of many things that make Flagstaff special.
Hartl points out that there are many different ways to get around town, including walking and biking paths found in the Flagstaff Urban Trail System (FUTS). And just an hour south of Flagstaff is Sedona, a city known for its beautiful red sandstone formations.
Housing prices in Flagstaff are getting very expensive because there are so many places that are nice to live in.
The housing market is typically very hot, with homes going for 10% to 25% over the asking price. But sometimes homes go for even more than that–for example, prices that are 25% over the asking price are not unusual. One of the fastest-growing metro areas in the country, Phoenix, is only a two-hour drive from Flagstaff. And because it’s considerably cooler in the summertime, people want to be there to enjoy the cooler temperatures.
